Theme Parks

We love theme parks here at Rivershore. From Disney to Six Flags, they have all played an important role in American culture over the years. We are passionate about documenting the history of these places that hold countless memories for so many.

While Disney has become the standard bearer of American theme park experiences, the regional theme parks are where most of us spend our time. Almost wherever you live in America, there is a smaller park near by. And for many, these are the ones they develop a closer relationship with. And so we’ve developed a series of resources that celebrate the history and memories of our favorite parks.

The 1960s and 70s were the golden age of regional theme parks in America. Inspired by Disneyland, everybody wanted a taste of Walt’s Magic Kingdom in their own backyard. After a few false starts, things finally got going with the opening of Six Flags Over Texas, followed up by parks all over the country.

We’ve created a separate site called America’s Disneylands, which is dedicated to preserving the rich history of regional theme parks. There you will find lots of articles, books, podcast episodes, and so-very-cool vintage souvenir maps.
