Six Flags Over Georgia
Take a tour of Six Flags Over Georgia in 1969, two years after it opened. It’s mostly the same as opening year, so you get a good sense of the original design ideas and implementation. Follow along with the book for an explanation of each land in the park; we’ll walk counter-clockwise starting at the front gate.
Entrance to the park with gardens, statuary, and grand Corinthian columns.
First land to the right of the entrance is Great Britain, although many of the Tudor-style structures intended to make it more British didn’t make it to construction.
Next is the Confederate States of America. Remember, the park concept was to pay homage to all the countries that ruled Georgia throughout its history. Tales of the Okefenokee, the park’s major dark ride was here (just above the cut-off of the map excerpt, as is the major coaster Dahlonega Mine Train.
Spain was largely the single fort-looking structure Castillo de Soto. France is in the top-left quadrant of the park with the Jungle Cruise knock-off Jean Ribaul’s Adventure.
USA consisted mostly of a few flat rides, the Chevy Show, and a Sid & Marty Crofft show theater. The Sky Hook was a transplant from Six Flags Over Texas, moved over in 1969.
Georgia is the last land; the Log Jamboree flume being the biggest draw. They would add a second flume to the attraction for the second season.
