An unexpectedly dark day

On the eve of the 9/11 20th anniversary, it seems a bit, well, wrong to talk about theme parks. I want to share some photos from the Flight 93 memorial in western Pennsylvania. Most of you will probably never visit simply because it's so far away from anything. But you have to be there to truly understand. Even those of us who vividly remember that unexpectedly dark day, it doesn't sink in until you see the field where the plane disintegrated into the ground. The direction of descent in those final, fatal seconds. The names forever engraved in stone. And the gate that provides access to the actual crash field—opened only for family members.

These photos certainly won’t do this justice, but perhaps you can get just a taste of what it feels like to stand there.
